I had a packed week this week. It was a long time coming but I finally got wired up to the harness and got another bike fit done at the Custom Bike Fit studio after months of changing bits and pieces on my bike.
Then it was off to Challenge Gold Coast where it was pissing down rain leading up to the race so unfortunately for all us long course racers they shortened the course to a 40k bike (50k) shorter. Since I’ve been doing swim squad and technique correction; I was standing at the start line for the first time ever in a swim thinking, “right lets do this” and got out of the water feeling great, I cracked a swim PB which I was super happy with.
Got onto the bike and started putting time into the people ahead of me but because they cut the ride so short I ran out of road and unfortunately I was back at transition before I knew it. I got off the bike feeling terrible and was struggling to hold 4/k’s but 10k’s I was feeling good and dropped it back to low 3:50’s. On looking back I think its one of those things where you need to push through that crap feeling when you get off the bike “you're suppose to feel like that” and rather then listening to how your legs are feeling right there and then just push through that discomfort and run the pace you set out to run regardless because you WILL feel better sooner or later.
I still managed a run PB, unfortunately it was only good enough for 2nd in Cat by 1min but it was just a training weekend leading up to the big one, so it was still a very successful weekend and I’ve learnt a lot. Next ones Sunny Coast 70.3, then Kona!
